This mortar below was found on Slievenanee mountain on the first of June 2014.

The next day the police and bomb disposal unit arrived to inspect the device

After first examination it was decided to blow the mortar up.

A further inspection discovered that it was a practice mortar used by the Home Guard

who trained on Slievenanee during the second world war.

An X ray was carried out on the device which found it to contain no explosive substance.

Therefore it was declared to be safe
